Jeffrey L. “Gus” Saltsman, 69, of Portsmouth, died Friday, July 9, 2021, at Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus. He was born April 19, 1952, in Portsmouth to the late Robert and Jean (Flanagan) Saltsman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Ryker Saltsman, and his brother, Thomas Saltsman.
Gus was employed at Glockner Chevrolet for 48 years and retired as Service Manager, he was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, former Notre Dame High School Board president, former president of Notre Dame Athletic Foundation, Holy Redeemer Bell Choir, former Little League and Del Rice baseball coach, and formerly served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Gus is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary (Collins) Saltsman, two sons; Andrew Saltsman (Jessica), of Wheelersburg, Joseph Saltsman (Lyndsey), of Portsmouth, three brothers; Steve Saltsman (Donna), of London, OH., Robert Saltsman (Suzette), of Columbus, and Pete Saltsman, of Columbus, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Jane Rickey, of Plantation, FL., as well as grandchildren; Emma Saltsman, Jake Saltsman, Rylee Coriell, Reyse Saltsman, and Ryder Saltsman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Monday, July 12, 2021, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Yokum officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday, July 11, 2021, at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home with a Rosary Service beginning at 8:00 PM.
