Portsmouth Police Officers responded to a dangerous situation at the railroad tracks on 8th Street after employees of Norfolk Southern alerted them to some bizarre behavior.
Employees said a man tried to climb onto a train and then attempted to jump in front of one. They said they were talking to the man, and he appeared to be on drugs.
When officers arrived at the scene, they took the man in custody and sent for an ambulance. When it became apparent the man had overdosed, an officer administered Narcan to revive him.
