There’s a new judge in Scioto County Juvenile Court, but she’s a familiar face in the courtroom. Governor Mike DeWine appointed Rebecca Bennett to the spot left vacant when Judge Alan Lemons retired.
Bennet will take the bench on July 22 and serve out the remainder of Lemon’s term. If she wants to stay in the position, she’ll have to run for election in November.
Most recently, Bennet has served as a magistrate for the court, which handles juvenile and probate cases. Before that, she spent 13 years as an attorney specializing in custody, abuse, neglect, juvenile delinquency, divorce, and estates.
Bennet also served as assistant city solicitor and prosecutor for Portsmouth and as an assistant prosecuting attorney for Adamas and Scioto County.
In her free time, she’s involved with the Portsmouth Rotary Club, CRADLE Pregnancy Care Center, Temple Baptist Church, and Grace Community at Bigelow Church.
