It started as a missing vehicle. Then it turned into something else entirely.
Officers were called after a resident couldn’t find her car and feared it had been stolen. About 20 minutes later, the vehicle turned up parked in a different spot, bringing a quick sense of relief.
But that didn’t last.
Roughly an hour later, officers were called back when the owner discovered items had been taken from inside the vehicle.
According to the report, Portsmouth police responded to Hill View Retirement Center, where they spoke with two witnesses and gathered information for a theft report.
The vehicle itself — a navy blue Ford Escape — was recovered, but whatever was taken from inside it was not.
