Two women are behind bars after law enforcement says they denied a six-year-old child food and water during a court-ordered visitation with its biological mother. That child is in the hospital now, being treated for malnutrition, dehydration, and hypoglycemia.
Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman said Kentucky Child Protective Services contacted his office Wednesday, saying they’d received a report that a Kentucky child was denied food and water during a court-ordered visitation with its mother.
The child was taken to KDMC and then transferred to Cabell County Hospital for treatment.
That’s when Scioto County SVU sprung into action and headed to the mom’s Wheelersburg home and took her in for questioning. They learned that the alleged abuse had happened at the child’s aunt’s home in West Portsmouth.
Officers arrested both women. Mom Michael J. Born, 31, and Aunt Courtney Born, 34, are both charged with endangering children and held on a $50,000 bond.
Sheriff David Thoroughman said the investigation is ongoing and there could be more charges.
