“Missing” Girl Tells Portsmouth Police To MYOB

A supposedly missing girl told police in no uncertain terms she didn’t need to be found. Plus, a tragic discovery in a 2nd Street apartment and COVID testing gone wrong. This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

  • At 4:37 am, a woman reported items stolen from her porch on Mabert Road
  • A woman reported items missing from her Charles Street home and garage at 1:23 pm. She said she captured the person who took the stuff on camera and can identify him. Police took a report.
  • A Rent To Own store called police to report the theft to two TVs and an Xbox. A woman renting the items pawned them a the Cashland in Waverly. Police took a report.
  • A woman reported a stolen dog just after 3 pm. She claimed the people who had the dog said she is not getting it back. An officer spoke with the people. They agreed to return the dog.
  • Someone stole the hanging basket in front of the Desco on Chillicothe Street just before 7 pm. Police took information for a report.
  • A woman called police at 6:49 pm to report that her boyfriend stole her car. Since the incident happened in Columbus, PPD advised her to call the Columbus PD. When she called Columbus, they advised her to call PPD.  Officers told her to contact Columbus police again.

False Alarm

  • An Alarm went off at the Dialysis Center on 17th Street at 12:39 am. When officers checked out the building, everything looked okay.
  • A man called in just before 7 am to cancel a burglar alarm he’d accidentally set off.  Dispatch explained the alarm company must cancel the call.
  • The Alarm at Notre Dame High School sounded just before 8 am. An officer walked through the building with someone from the school. Everything looked fine.
  • Police received a report of an alarm at East Portsmouth Elementary at 4 pm. A minute later the alarm company called to cancel.

Suspicious Activity

  • A Linden Avenue caller reported a man had taken things from his dumpster and left them in the street just after 2 am. The man was not in the area when officers arrived. They didn’t observe any trash on the ground.
  • Just after 4 am, a man reported that a bald man with no shirt on ran out of the Little Caesar’s on Gallia. Officers caught up with the guy at the Royal Inn and arrested him.
  • A caller reported a man going in and out of traffic on a bicycle on the Scioto Trail just after noon. He was gone when officers arrived.

Cry For Help

  • Officers assisted a woman who called for an ambulance for both her and her daughter.  She said they were both sick and she doesn’t drive.  EMS was dispatched and the officers advised the woman to call Portsmouth Ambulance for a second unit.
  • Police came to the aid of a suicidal man on Valley Street at 10:41 am. An ambulance transported him to the hospital.

DOA

A friend discovered the body of a 30-year-old man in his 2nd Street apartment just after 9 am. The friend had arrived to take him to work.

When the man didn’t answer, he became concerned and climbed in his window. He found the man lying in his shower. The friend unsuccessfully attempted to revive him.

After EMT’s confirmed the man was dead, police notified the coroner and attempted to contact relatives of the deceased. The coroner took custody of the body.

Under The Influence

  • A Wayne Avenue Caller reported finding a bunch of needles and drugs in a baggy just after 10 am. An officer impounded the items for destruction.
  • Police answered a call to the Woodbine Apartments for a report of a woman smacking a man just before 12:30 pm. The caller believed the man was high and the woman was attempting to bring him around.
  • A caller reported a man jumping around and lying in the road on Kendall Avenue. No word on whether this is the same guy that gets reported jumping and lying in the road on just about a daily basis.

Test Of Patience

Two people already having a bad day saw it get worse. Both were at the COVID testing tent at the Urgent Care on Kinneys because they had COVID symptoms. One car backed into the other. The two exchanged information., Police took a report.

Not Missing. Not Your Business

Police removed a missing person from their database after she complained. The woman had just turned 18 years old and said she just doesn’t “feel like letting everybody know her business.” Police removed her from their database and informed her family of her wishes.
