13 Crazy Calls and How PPD Responded

Portsmouth Police got some crazy calls on Sunday. From a suicidal man with a sword to a neighborhood battle over BB guns, PPD officers answered reports ranging from ordinary to out of this world. One caller even seemed to have them confused with her gynecologist. Check out the highlights in these next 10 slides. B & E

A 17th Street Resident reported a break-in at their PMHA apartment just after midnight. Police took information for a report.

Dog Attacks Owner

A brown pit bull mix attacked his owner at his Mabert Road Home at 2:21 am. The caller reported that the owner was unresponsive and the brown dog ran outside.

Catch and Release

New Boston PD picked up a suspect the Portsmouth PD wanted to serve a warrant on. However, the Scioto County Jail said they weren’t accepting prisoners. PPD advised New Boston to let the guy go.

This is Why I Can’t Have Nice Things

A woman called for an officer at 2:44 am. She said her 2013 Honda Civic was missing. The woman believed her son took the car. Officers took information for a report.

The vehicle reappeared at the home at 7:45 am. Police impounded the vehicle and released it to the owner.

That’s Really Not Our Department

A woman called PPD just before 6 am to report there were toxins in her food. She also complained of a bleeding uterus.  Officers offered to send an ambulance. She refused.

Cry For Help

A man with a sword threatened to kill himself just after 6 am. Officers responded to Sunrise Avenue to check things out. They assisted the Fire Department in transporting the man to SOMC.

Under The Influence

  • Just after 7 am, a 7th Street caller reported a man lying on the sidewalk. He appeared to have overdosed.
  • A caller reported a man lying in the road on Franklin Avenue at 10:22 am. The Fire Department treated the man,  but he refused to go to the hospital.
  • Just before 6:30, officers answered a call of a man passed out on a bench on Kendall Avenue. Turned out he was asleep.
  • An hour later, a caller reported a woman lying on the ground in front of a Thomas Avenue Apartment. She appeared to have overdosed.

Suspicious in Pink

A woman called police at 2:13 pm to report a suspicious pink bicycle on 17th Street. She reported a man riding the bike towards Wayne Hills. She believed it was a stolen bicycle she saw posted online.

Police found no stolen pink bicycle reports.  The man was gone by the time they arrived.

Messing With Mail

A caller reported a man in a white shirt and gray pants attempted to break into mailboxes between two Kendall Avenue apartment buildings. He used a hammer and a screwdriver.

When officers arrived they found that two mailboxes were damaged.

Child Shot

A caller reported a 13-year-old was shot with a BB gun just after 9:30 pm on Harrisonville Avenue. The caller reported a boy shooting BBs at other neighborhood kids.

Police spoke to the boy’s parents. They took the BB gun away. They also reported that neighborhood kids had picked on the boy and he’d fired at them in retaliation.

Police said to call back if there were any more problems.

Officers were back on Harrisonville Avenue an hour later. Multiple people were arguing outside a home, attempting to get the residents to come outside and fight. Police advised children to stay away from each other. Additionally, they asked parents to put away the BB guns.
