Portsmouth Police are investigating multiple reports of sexual assault, including one involving a local childcare facility. While details remain scarce, authorities emphasize that properly handling cases like these requires a thorough and time-consuming investigative process.
The first report came in around 12:30 p.m. when officers were called to a childcare center in response to a sexual assault allegation. By the time officers arrived, the alleged assailant was no longer on the scene. At this point, it’s unclear whether the victim was an adult or a minor, or when the incident allegedly occurred. Officers gathered preliminary information and filed an official report.
Just 30 minutes later, a Children’s Services (CPS) caseworker contacted Portsmouth Police to file a separate report of a sexual assault. Officers again documented the information for investigation.
Experts caution the public not to jump to conclusions, stressing that sexual assault cases—especially those involving children or vulnerable individuals—require careful handling to protect the rights of all parties and ensure the integrity of the investigation.
“These cases often involve multiple interviews, medical examinations, forensic analysis, and cooperation between agencies,” said one expert familiar with the process. “We owe it to the victims and the accused to follow every step of the process thoroughly and respectfully.”
No arrests have been made at this time, and police have not confirmed if the two reports are connected.
