Portsmouth Police Officers spend a good deal of time on Monday responding to theft reports. Thieves helped themselves to everything from booze to bikes to electricity.  There were also a whole lot of folks under the influence to deal with. We’ve got the highlights in these seven slides.  If you’d like the whole, unfiltered story, consider becoming a VIP member of SCDN.  Click here to learn how it works.

Under The Influence

  • Just before 1 am, police were called to the Royal Inn on Kendall Avenue for a report of an overdose in the parking lot. The person refused treatment.
  • Police responded to a call of an overdose on Wayne Avenue at 5:25 am. The caller said someone had overdosed in a gray car. The person in the car refused treatment.
  • Half an hour later, a caller reported the same man caused a disturbance with a baseball bat. Officers read him his rights and sent him on to the hospital in an ambulance.
  • At 7:35 am, police were called to Highland Avenue for a report of a man inside a home screaming and hitting himself. The caller said he might be on drugs or having a psychotic break. There was no one of that description there when police arrived.
  • Just before noon, a man passed out drunk in a parked vehicle on Coles Blvd. He woke up and then backed into a parked trailer. About an hour later the owner of the trailer called to say that the man was back and said he was there for drugs. He was gone when police arrived.
  • Police were summoned to Spring Street at 12:34 pm for a report of an apparently high woman taking off her clothes near the dumpster. She refused medical treatment. Officers advised her to leave the property.
  • Police received a call that drug paraphernalia was found at the Homeless Shelter on 8th Street just before 5:30 pm. They picked up syringes and put them in a sharps container.

Family Matters

Police were called to Center street just before 7 am. The caller said her daughter refused to leave the house and had made threats. The woman was gone when police arrived. Officers told the mom to call back if there were any more problems.

Suspicious Minds

A 29th Street caller asked officers to check the area just after 1:30 am. They said someone was going around knocking on doors. Officers didn’t find anyone.

Cry For Help?

Officers attempted to do a welfare check on Kent Street around 10 am. A caller reported a man had posted on Facebook that he didn’t want to live anymore. They weren’t sure if they found the right address and no one came to the door.

Inappropriate Behavior?

  • A concerned grandmother called officers just after 10 am. She claimed her teenage granddaughter told her that some man had gotten in bed with her.
  • When officers spoke to the teen, she said that she was home with her brothers and that her mother’s ex-boyfriend was supervising them.
  • At one point, he sat on the edge of her bed to talk to her and they both fell asleep. She woke up the next morning to him sleeping in the bed wit her. The girl said nothing inappropriate had occurred.

  • Just before 11 am, officers responded to a call from a Jackson Avenue Home.  A man had a video of a suspect stealing two of his bikes. He arrived first at 2:40 am to take the first one. Then the guy came back 45 minutes later to steal the second one. Officers obtained a copy of the footage.
  • At 4:30 pm, police answered a call to Kroger on Gay Street for a report of a shoplifter running out of the store with liquor in hand.
  • Police answered a call to Speedway just after 9 pm . A man stole several items and left the store. He had left by the time police arrived.
  • Officers responded to a call at the Park and Ride at 9:28 pm for a report of a man in a ski mask messing around with cars. They discovered a vehicle with broken windows.
  • A woman called police at 10:32 to report that a man was living next door in a vacant house and stealing her electricity.
