It was a wild start to the week for Portsmouth Police. They kicked off their Monday morning with a manhunt. We’ve got lots of ODs, a lot of stick-fingers, and the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen happened at Kroger. Read on to find out what went down.

Noise Complaints
Police were called out to Robinson Avenue for a noise complaint just after 1 a.m. on Sunday. All was quiet when they arrived.
Just after 1:30 am on Sunday, police responded to another noise complaint on Highland Avenue. They warned the residents to keep it quiet.
Detained
Just after 3 am on Sunday, police picked up a woman on 5th Street. She had a warrant out of Pike County. Officers took her into custody.
Intruders
- Police were called to Summit Street just after 5 a.m. A woman reported that someone tried to get into her house. She claimed neighbors were peeping into her bathroom while she bathed. She further stated, they were putting bricks under her window to stand on. Officers couldn’t find a suspect or a brick.
- Police had better luck finding a suspect at 6:30 am Sunday on Mabert Road. They responded to a report of someone trying to get in the window and arrested Dustin Fletcher for burglary.
Attempted Hoboing
Police responded to 8th Street just after 10 am on Sunday for a report of a woman attempting to jump on the side of the train. They told her to move on.
Hey You! Get Out of My Car
Just before 11:30 am on Sunday, a woman called 911 to report that two people were in her and wouldn’t get out.
Drugs and ODs
- A woman called police to a 6th Street Home at 11:30 am on Sunday to report her daughter was on drugs and staying out all night breaking into cars. As a result of being asked to leave, the daughter threw things at her mother. The daughter agreed to leave.
- Just after noon n Sunday, police made one of their daily trips to the Royal Inn. Unsurprisingly, it was for an overdose. The woman refused assistance.
- At noon on Monday police received a report of two men in a blue Nissan at the Mabert Road Baptist Church. The Witness reported they were flopping around on top of the car.
- At 12:20 on Monday, someone called to report that there were two guys in a blue Dodge acting crazy at the parking lot of Aldi and asking people for money.
- Police responded to the SOMC Urgent Care just after 3 pm for a report of someone overdosing in a Red SUV
- There was another possible OD just after 10 pm on Monday. This time, a woman in a red truck on 24th Street. She was treated by medics.
Children in Danger
- Just after 1 pm on Monday, the police got a report of a toddler in the middle of the road on 17th street. He was wearing shorts but no shirt. The child was gone when police arrived.
- At 2:22 on Monday, officers responded to a welfare check on another toddler. The caller said the child was living in a house full of bedbugs, roaches, and fleas. Additionally, the caller claimed adults were doing drugs in front of the child. Police say the house and child were fine. There were no signs of drugs.
Suspicious Persons
- At 2:30 pm on Sunday, police responded to a report of a man in shorts and a hoodie beating on doors and yelling at 17th Street and Grandview. He was gone when police arrived.
- Just before 5 pm on Sunday, the residents of a Summit Street home found a stranger sleeping on their front porch. Police dropped him off at his North Hill Road home.
- Police were called to Gallia Street for a report of an intoxicated man and woman changing clothes at the BP. There was trash scattered around the car. When police got there, it turned out they were just cleaning out the vehicle.
- Police responded to the AT & T Wireless on Gallia just after 4 pm for a report of a man passed out in a vehicle in front of the store. He attempted to run from the police. The man had warrants and was booked into the County Jail.
Where’s my stuff?
- At 8:30 pm on Sunday, police received a report of a Pontiac stolen from a Campbell Avenue home. The owner says they know who took it. Police made a report.
- Just a few minutes later, a woman called to say her ex stole a food stamp care from her Thomas Avenue apartment. She was advised to call Job and Family Services.
- Just after 9 pm on Sunday, a man called to say he found his stolen Bobcat loader at a home on the Scioto Trail. Police assisted him in getting his property back.
Manhunt
Monday got off to an exciting start for PPD officers. They received a call just after midnight reporting a man with a gun on Thomas Avenue. A caller said he saw a man pointing a gun at a woman.
When police arrived, they spotted a man with an active warrant in Lawrence County and took him into custody. They never found the guy with the gun but they did pick up a suspect to hand over to Lawrence County.
Fishy Story
- A report of a missing van came with a very convoluted story. Police were called out to 17th Street and Thomas at 1 am on Monday.
- The caller claimed a someone had taken their van the previous week and that they were currently following that person through town.
- Police intercepted that van at 17th and Hutchins.
- The person who reported the van missing had a couple of different stories about how she got it. The registration for the vehicle turned out to be fake. At first, she claimed she’d loaned it to the driver to get materials. Then she claimed someone had left it on her property.
- Since the driver didn’t have a license and there was no valid registration, the van was taken to impound. Police told her she could have it when she produced a valid title.
Back off Mom’s Stimulus Money
A worried son called police just before 9 am on Monday. He thought someone was trying to get his mother’s stimulus money.
Police responded to her 17th Street Apartment. She seemed fine and didn’t want help from police.
Grandma Patrol
- Officers got a call from a 17th Street mother just after 10 am on Monday. She said her mother had taken her children for a couple of days and she wanted them back. Police spoke to the Grandmother in Otway. She’s returning the kids.
- Another grandmother called just after 11:30 am from just down the street on Kendall Avenue. She said her granddaughter had texted that she was about to get jumped.
Meanwhile at Kroger
Absolutely nothing happened. Not one single call to Kroger between Friday and Monday. In all the time we’ve been doing police reports, that’s never happened.
Maybe the shoplifters have decided to socially distance themselves. Maybe the shelves have been stripped so bare there’s nothing they want to steal.
