Portsmouth Officers dealt with a DOA, an family in distress, a roach-infested home, and a gasoline thief on Friday. We break down the highlights in these next 12 slides.
Family In Distress
Officers tried to lend a hand to a family under a great deal of stress. The wife suffered a stroke three weeks previously and the husband faced challenges carrying for her. Around 1:30 am, a man reported his invalid mom was attempting to throw herself off the couch.
Late Thursday evening, he’d called police at his wife’s request because she felt he was hurting her when he tried to transfer her from bed to couch. The woman was in pain and wanted to be taken to the ER.
Officers contacted the ER and a doctor suggested the woman call back in the morning to speak with a social worker about transferring her to a rehab facility.
Police said there were no signs of abuse. Both parties were just under a great deal of stress due to her medical condition.
Everything’s Fine
Three units responded to a 911 hang-up call at 1:32 am. It turned out a child had accidentally called 911 while its mother was asleep. Everyone was fine.
Warrants In Hand
Police responded to 17th Street at 2:45 am for a report of a man threatening to tear up a woman’s car. Officers discovered the suspect had a warrant from Boyd County.
Roaches and Trash
Officers discovered a real mess while searching a Grandview Avenue home just before 4 am. According to their report, there was trash everywhere and roaches crawling throughout the home. They advised the residents about the living conditions.
Confused At The Jail
PPD officers answered a call to the Scioto County Jail just after 5 am. There were two individuals between lobby doors who appeared to have mental health issues.
Both parties refused medical treatment and left the lobby.
Hey! That’s My Stuff
Officers received a call from Aaron’s Sales & Lease To Own on Walnut just after 9 am. The store caught a man stealing gas out of one of their vans on video. Police took information for a report.
Worried Aunt
A woman contacted police at 9:19 am to report her nephew missing. His last known location was the auxiliary homeless shelter on 17th Street.
However, shelter personnel said they kicked him out a few months ago.
This Property Is Condemned
- At 9:30 am, officers headed back to a recently condemned home on Auburn Avenue to check if the residents had finally left. They forced entry to make sure no one was inside before the health department boarded up the place.
- At 10:30 am, police responded to a report that homeless people kicked in the back door of the old Borden building and were now living inside. Officers found an open door on the side of the building.
Angry Father
Four units were ultimately dispatched to a custody dispute. A woman called police to Kendall Avenue at 11:14 am to report her child’s father took the child and had not brought him back.
Police detained the father whom they described as disruptive, combative, and uncooperative. They took him to jail on multiple charges.
Shirtless In Traffic
At 2 pm, police received a report of an apparently high man with no shirt walking straight into traffic and jumping around.
Officers reported it was a man they deal with pretty much on a daily basis for this problem. They did not detain him.
DOA
Police responded to 7th Street at 7 pm for a report of a DOA. The acting coroner ordered the body transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.
Under The Influence
Officers answered a report of a possible overdose on Campbell Avenue just before 9 pm. A medic gave the woman a dose of Narcan. She refused further treatment.
