Deputies responded to a rehab facility after an employee said a resident had assaulted several other patients and then fled on foot.
One victim said he was talking on the phone with a friend when the man suddenly punched him in the back of the head, knocked him to the ground, and began to kick and punch him. The officer noted the victim had multiple injuries, including a bloody mouth, rib cage injuries, and a knot on his head.
The second victim said he was walking downstairs when the man hit him in the back of the head for no reason. EMS transported the injured men to the hospital for treatment.
Witnesses spotted the suspect in the assaults walking along County Road 18 in Chesapeake, and officers caught up with him shortly afterward and took him into custody.
Police charged him with two counts of felonious assault and booked him into the Lawrence County Jail.
