Law enforcement officers responded to a report of a suspicious character hanging around an abandoned garage and home on County Road 68 and met a guy with an interesting story.
When a Lawrence County Deputy got to the home, they spotted a man matching the description. He immediately went back into the garage and shut the door.
Officers went straight to the garage and ordered the man to put his hands where they could see them and also spotted a woman on the premises.
The pair told officers they’d pulled into the abandoned garage to have sex, and they couldn’t get their car to start again.
However, officers were suspicious they were removing copper from the home since they noted an unusual smell. The pair denied it, but deputies located bundles of copper wire smoldering in the fire pit.
Police took Oscar Cremeans and Shirley Adkins into custody and booked them into the Lawrence County Jail.
