A cigarette thief made a big mistake and the police discovered a truck in the river. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing. 

Cigarette Thief Leaves ID Behind

A shoplifter at the First Stop Market made a big mistake. An employee told police she made off with a bag of cigarettes but left a card with her name on it in a machine before fleeing on foot. 

Officers took information for a report. 

Suspicious Activity

At 3:30 pm, a caller reported a woman chasing a man down Grant yelling that he had taken her money. Officers could not locate anyone matching descriptions in the area. 

A man contacted police just before 5 pm to report he’d asked a woman to get out of his vehicle several times. When officers arrived, she left the vehicle.

Just after midnight, a Kendall Avenue caller reported people screaming inside an apartment. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a kid had gotten into trouble and received a lecture from the adults. Police said everyone seemed okay. 

Police Respond To Rape Report

At 7:23 pm, police responded to SOMC for a report of a rape. They met with a woman in the ER and took information for a report. 

Under the Influence

A Wayne Avenue caller reported a man passed out behind some dumpsters just before 9 am. The man left before officers arrived. 

Just before noon, witnesses reported a man yelling, screaming, and punching himself at 3rd and Chillicothe. Officers determined the man had overdosed and a medic was dispatched to the scene. 

Alleged Underage Drinking

A man contacted police at 12:14 am to report that his 15-year-old brother was served alcohol at Richard Noggins. 

Officers attempted to take information for a report, but the man walked off while an officer filled out an incident report. 

Man Found Lying in Grass on Gallia

A caller found a man lying on the grass near the Carousel Center on Gallia at 2:30 am. The man could not explain how he got there. 

An ambulance transported the man to SOMC. 

Truck Found In River

Just after 11 am, police responded to a report of a truck partially submerged in the river near Alexandria Park. 

Police checked with the registered owner’s wife, who said he was alive and well at home. However, she wasn’t sure how to get the truck out of the river. 

Nice Day for a Race

At 12:30 pm, a caller said it sounded as if people were drag racing in the area of Coles Blvd and Sunrise Avenue. The racers left before police arrived.

A few minutes later, a caller reported people riding dirt bikes on sidewalks and in the road near Grand and High Street. Officers could not locate them. 

Car Trashed in Wayne Hills

Officer responded to a report of a vehicle with flat tires and trash all around it parked on Wayne Avenue for an extended period of time.

An officer marked it for a 72-hour violation.
