Portsmouth EMS and Police Officers responded to the Party Time Bar at 1 am for a report of a woman in the bathroom turning blue.
Officers discovered that the intoxicated woman had fallen and hit her head.
An ambulance transported her to the hospital for treatment.
Gunshots Reported on 11th Street
Portsmouth Police Officers responded to 11th and Lincoln Street at 1:21 pm for a report of gunshots. A woman told police she heard what sounded like three gunshots coming from the area of North and Lincoln Streets.
Officers investigated the area but did not find anything suspicious. They spoke to a woman on 8th Street who said she had been outside all day and hadn’t heard anything.
Later that evening, a Jackson Street caller reported hearing seven or eight gunshots in the area. Officers checked around but did not find anything.
Portsmouth Police Warn of Scam Callers
Portsmouth Police are warning citizens to be alert for scammers targeting people with frightening phone calls.
A statement from PPD said, “Dispatch just advised that we are receiving several calls about a scam saying that if the person doesn’t send money, they will be taken to jail. It looks like it is coming from the dispatch number.
WE ARE NOT CALLING ANYONE AND TELLING THEM TO PAY MONEY OR GO TO JAIL!!!
Please do not give anyone money that says they are going to take you to jail. It is a total scam. If you believe that it is the IRS, Social Security, or whatever they claim to be, please hang up and call the number of the organization they claim to be from. DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY PERSONAL IDENTIFYING INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE UNLESS YOU ARE SURE OF WHO YOU ARE TALKING TO.”
These types of government impersonation scams are common. No government or law enforcement agency will ever contact you via the phone and demand immediate payment.”
