A call about a stolen wallet and property dispute in Scioto County took a bizarre turn when deputies arrested a man—only to be told he was supposed to be dead.
A woman contacted the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office claiming a man had stolen her wallet, purse, and money. She also told dispatch the man was trying to force her out of a home she says she owns.
Dispatchers noted they had difficulty hearing the caller, reporting that most of the call was drowned out by a television in the background. The caller did confirm that everyone involved lived at the residence.
When deputies arrived to investigate, they took a man into custody on an outstanding warrant.
That’s when things got strange.
After contacting probation, deputies were informed the warrant had been recalled—because records showed the man as deceased.
Yes… deceased.
The chief probation officer advised deputies to release the man—who is apparently very much alive—and instructed him to report to probation the following morning.
No word on what led to the mix-up, but it’s not every day someone gets arrested… and then un-arrested for being officially dead.
