Three people were killed and a young child was seriously injured Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Pike County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers from the Portsmouth Post responded around 1:56 p.m. on June 15 to the intersection of State Route 32 and Coal Dock Road in Union Township.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse driven by 30-year-old Hannah N. Howard of Beaver was traveling north on Coal Dock Road. A 2009 Kenworth T800 tractor-trailer pulling an empty logging trailer, driven by 27-year-old Chance E. Rodgers of Bainbridge, was traveling west on State Route 32.
Troopers said the Chevrolet failed to yield while attempting to continue north across State Route 32 and was struck by the Kenworth.
Howard and two of her three passengers, 9-year-old Gunner Howard and 5-year-old Peyton Howard, both of Beaver, died at the scene.
A fourth passenger, a 4-year-old child, was flown by air ambulance to Nationwide Children’s Hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.
Rodgers was not injured in the crash.
The Pike County Sheriff’s Office, MedFlight, Stockdale Fire Department, Beaver Fire Department, Ports Atomic Plant Emergency Services, Portsmouth Emergency Ambulance Service, Pike County Coroner’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, and Gahm’s Wrecker & Crane Service assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
