A woman brought to the jail was specifically warned that carrying contraband into the facility could result in a felony charge. According to a sheriff’s report, she said she understood and had nothing on her.
Then, while she was changing into a jail jumpsuit, a bag of pills allegedly fell from her clothing.
Ironton Police brought the female suspect to the Lawrence County Jail for booking. During the initial screening process, she told corrections staff she was pregnant.
Before she was taken into the jail, an officer warned her that if she had prohibited items on or inside her person, she could face a third-degree felony conveyance charge. According to the report, she said she understood and denied having any such items.
A corrections officer then took her to complete a pregnancy test and change into jail clothing.
According to the report, while the suspect was removing her clothes in the property room, a small bag containing pills fell from her person.
The bag was turned over to an officer, who reported finding three round blue pills, two rectangular white pills and seven halves of the same type of white tablet.
The officer used a pill identifier and reported that both types appeared to be alprazolam, commonly known by the brand name Xanax.
The pills were photographed, packaged separately and submitted into evidence. Photographs were also attached to the sheriff’s report.
The report provided does not state whether the woman was subsequently charged with conveyance or a drug offense as a result of the discovery.
