A neighbor dispute on Cooney Road went a little hog wild Thursday morning when a woman called Scioto County deputies to report her neighbor’s pigs were loose on her property and digging holes in the yard.
The caller wanted the pigs gone, but she did not want to approach the neighbor herself.
According to the sheriff’s log, the caller said her attorney had advised against direct contact because the neighbor carries a firearm and the two had experienced problems in the past.
So a deputy got the job of playing pig mediator.
The deputy first went to speak with the pigs’ owner, then escorted her onto the caller’s property so she could retrieve the animals.
That extra step mattered because the neighbor had previously been trespassed from the property.
The pigs were eventually rounded up and removed.
Deputies noted that the animals had left damage to the yard from digging.
No arrest was reported.
In the end, nobody had to argue over the fence line, nobody had to chase pigs alone, and the deputy managed to get the livestock back where they belonged without turning an already tense neighbor dispute into something worse.
