The highlights from the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Suspicious Activity
- Police answered a report about a man sleeping on steps outside Kroger at 6:54 am. An employee asked the man to leave and not return.
- Just after 8 am, McDonald’s on Gallia reported a man threatening to cut employees’ tires. He was carrying a black bag and accompanied by a woman. It turned out there was already a warrant out for the guy.
- Hurth Apartments contacted police at 9:51 am to report a man who’d been barred from the property sitting in the gazebo. Police couldn’t find a formal request for the man to stay off the property.
- At 12:34 pm, Waller Street caller spotted two men going down the stairwell to the kitchen at Second Presbyterian Church and hanging out down there for half an hour. Police advised them to move on and not return.
- Witnesses reported an older woman throwing things at passing vehicles on 12th Street at 12:45 pm. Police told her to stay out of the road.
Domestic Disturbances
- Just before 7 pm, a Gallia Street caller complained to police that her boyfriend was refusing to leave the apartment they shared. By the time police arrived, the man had left of his own accord.
- At 7:30 pm, officers responded to another domestic, this time on 3rd Street. A woman complained a man refused to let her get her things from the residence. It turned out the man had an open warrant, so police took him into custody.
- An hour later, officers responded to another fight, this time on Dorman Drive. The male half of the argument left before police arrived.
Hey, That’s My Stuff
- A woman told police she’d located a man she believed stole from her at Pat’s Cafe at 8:28 am. An officer took the man to the station to take a report and then gave him a ride back to Pat’s.
- At 11:05 am, a woman contacted police to report her wallet was stolen at Kroger.
- A Logan Street caller reported a garage break-in at 12:34 pm. The complainant said a bike and weed eater were missing.
Gun Found In Vehicle
Enterprise Rent-a-Car contacted PPD just after 9 am to report finding a gun left inside a vehicle. The company contacted the weapon’s owner but per company policy, they turned the gun over to the police for safekeeping.
PPD will return the gun to the rightful owner.
Panhandling Problem
Once again, PPD responded to reports of two aggressive men harassing people in the parking lot of Aldi on Gallia Street. The pair were gone by the time police arrived.
