Officers responded to a report of a hungry kid that turned out to be a bit of an exaggeration and a misunderstanding between a mom and daughter caused a scare. We break down the highlights from the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Grand Theft Auto?

At 2:24 am, a caller from the Four Keys Inn said someone stole her vehicle. She said the thief was caught on video headed towards the Scioto Trail.

Five minutes later she called to say the vehicle had been returned but the keys were missing.

Twenty minutes after that, she located her keys and said she didn’t need to file a report.

Under The Influence

  • A Logan Street caller reported a woman passed out in a parked car with the door open at 7:34 am. By the time police arrived, the woman had left.
  • Officers responded to a report of a man tweaking on drugs on his sister’s Jackson Avenue porch. She wanted him to leave. The man left before the police arrived.
  • At 3:23 pm, a caller reported an unresponsive woman passed out in an alley behind Vinton Avenue. The woman left before the police arrived.
  • Police answered a report of a suspicious man in front of Holy Redeemer Church at 5:05 pm. Witnesses said he was swinging a baseball bat and cussing at traffic. Officers could not locate him.
  • Offices responded to Endicott Avenue at 10:15 pm for a report of a man and woman drinking and fighting.  The caller said the woman kept hitting her head against the wall. The caller also said the woman threatened to hurt herself.  The intoxicated woman just wanted to be left alone. Medics refused to transport the woman due to her intoxicated state.

Parking Crackdown

Officers responded to a report of a vehicle completely blocking the driveway of a 5th Street home at 7:46 am. The woman said she needed to leave for work. Police issued a citation, called for a tow truck, and impounded the vehicle.

Hey! That’s My Stuff

  • Security officers from UPS showed up at the Police Department at 9:35 to file a theft report.
  • At 10:20 am, The campground manager at Wolford’s Landing reported a man attempted to break into one of the campers and was now pacing back and forth. Officers were unable to locate the man.
  • A 17th Street caller reported a thief took the battery out of a parked vehicle. The thieves ransacked the inside of the vehicle and left behind used syringes. At 10:33, police took information for a report.

Identity Theft

A Dorman Drive caller reported another case of unemployment benefits identity theft. She said an unemployment benefits card turned up in the mail three weeks ago. She’d attempted to contact ODJFS with no luck.

Kid Reports Parents For Bad Breakfast

A teacher contacted police at 11:36 am after one of her students called to say he couldn’t wake up his mom and dad and that he and his brother were hungry. The teacher also contacted CPS.

However, when police arrived, they found the parents awake and alert and discovered the boy just didn’t like what she made for breakfast.

Unwanted Visitors

  • A Front Street caller reported a woman on their back patio at 4:55 pm. Police located the woman and contacted the building owner who asked that the woman leave. She did.
  • AT 5:05, employees of the Family Dollar on 11th served a trespass warrant on a woman who refused to leave. Police warned her and she left.
  • The Riverside Café on Jackson called police at 7:19 pm to report a man threatening employees. The man left before the police arrived.

Threatened With A Gun

A Harding Avenue caller told police the woman in the vehicle in front of him pulled a gun. He had a partial tag number for the suspect. Police took information for a report.

Misunderstood Mom

A woman contacted the police at 10:18 pm and reported her mother said she wanted to harm herself.
