Suspicious Activity

  • Just after 1:30 am, a caller reported two people attempting to break into a vehicle parked at Verizon Wireless. When officers arrived on the scene, there was no one there and they didn’t observe any damage.
  • Half an hour later, a McConnel Avenue caller reported to strange men in their side yard. Once again, the subjects left before the police arrived.
  • At 9:23 am, a Summit Street caller reported a man in a gold vehicle yelling at people. Police advised the man to move along.
  • A few minutes later, a Franklin Avenue resident said a man banged on his door in search of a woman who used to live next door. He left before the police arrived.

Hey, That’s My Stuff!

Just after 8:30 am, a caller reported a silver Chevy stolen from the 1900 block of Kendall. Police took information for a report.

A woman contacted police at noon to report that her license was lost or stolen in Portsmouth sometime during the past three weeks. She wanted to report the incident in case someone attempted ID theft.

Missing Woman

Officers went in search of a missing woman after a caller said they were unable to make contact with her.

Police headed to the Hill Road residence where she was supposed to be staying with a man. The man said she left a few days ago and possibly went into rehab.

Cat Nearly Killed In Fit of Rage

The Crisis Center contacted police at 10:30 am and said that a distraught client called them saying she’d killed her cat.

Officers and workers from the Board of DD arrived at the scene on 11th Street. The woman became angry with the animal and threw it. The injured cat was transported to the Shawnee Animal Clinic for treatment.

Police said the issue was being handled by the Board of DD.

Under The Influence

  • A Grant Street caller reported a group of people dealing drugs in the alley at 1 pm. They left before the police arrived.
  • Just after 8 pm, police responded to a report of a man passed out at the Grant Street side of Greenlawn Cemetery. The man refused a sobriety test. Officers took him into custody and arranged for his vehicle to be towed.
  • An hour later, a Charles Street caller reported a man passed out on the steps of the IDEW Union Hall. Police advised him to move along.

Pants on the Ground

An 11th Street neighbor called police to report that a man had pulled down his pants and was now screaming at people.

Officers took him into custody and then to jail. They notified the Board of DD of the situation. The jail planned to release the man and have the Board of DD find a place for him to go.

Time to Move On

  • An 11th Street restaurant asked officers to speak to a homeless man who’d been living in a car parked near the property for two weeks. He’s promised to move when he got a paycheck but was still there. Police advised him to move on.
  • A Grant Street caller reported that unwanted people were staying in his garage. The Health Department had already been by to evict the people but one of them came back. Police advised the man to leave.

Pole Position

  • At 4:30 pm, a woman got her car stuck on a pole at the Silver Palace. A tow truck arrived to help her get loose.
  • A man hit a utility pole on Gallia just before 6 pm. Police contacted AEP who said they were on the way. The vehicle owner was able to drive home.

Bad Burrito Reaction

An employee of Hot Head Burritos called the police and said there was a woman in the store who appeared intoxicated and looked to have been beaten up.

However, the woman told police she wasn’t assaulted but was having a severe allergic reaction. It turned out she had been stopped for OVI by OSP just a couple of hours before and was dropped off at Hot Head.

She went to SOMC for treatment of an allergic reaction.
