Stevenson Edward Chapman, 58, of Portsmouth, died Thursday, March 2, 2023 at his home. He was born April 7, 1964 in Portsmouth, to the late Joseph Austin and Charlotte (Taylor) Chapman. Steve worked in the concrete business for many years and always enjoyed being with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Sheldon Chapman.
Steve is survived by his eight children; Michael Chapman of Quincy, KY, Stevenson Adkins (Kirtsti Engle) of South Webster, Anthony Ealey of Portsmouth, Austin Chapman (Shaylee) of Franklin Furnace, Vanessa Clark (Micah) of McDermott, Shauntice Chapman (Ashley) of Portsmouth, Destani Chapman of Portsmouth, and Aleigha Chapman of Franklin Furnace, a brother, Rodney Chapman of Portsmouth, and five sisters; Desiree Reeves (Donald) of Portsmouth, Nedra Chapman of Lexington, KY, Ursula Jameson of Columbus, Charlene Chapman of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Gabriell Chapman of Portsmouth. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; Raydin, Ghannon, Taylinn, Braxton, Kadan, Harper, Jaxlynn, Kingston, Kamira, and one on the way, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a special friend, Jennifer Hood, of Portsmouth.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Ralph Clay officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery in West Portsmouth. A visitation for friends and family will be on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until the hour of the funeral.
