Man Spotted Crawling Under U-Haul, Woman Arrested
Just after 11:30 pm, a caller reported a man crawling under a U-Haul truck with a red backpack in his hand at a Walnut Street storage company.
When police arrived on the scene, they took Alena Schmidt into custody for drug abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia. Schmidt has previously been arrested on charges of theft, probation violation, and failure to appear.
She appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court. A preliminary hearing was set for July 13.
Suspicious Activity at Speedway
Just before 4 am, a Speedway employee told officers that man who had been barred from the property kept walking around the business and intimidating an ex-girlfriend.
Officers took the man into custody and booked him into the Scioto County Jail.
At 3:15 am the following evening, a caller said the man who had been barred from the property had returned and was once again harassing the employee. However, the man left before police arrived.
At 5:12 am, employees reported a shoplifter in the store. Police took the man into custody and booked him into the Scioto County Jail.
Just after midnight, officers returned to the store after a woman ate a bunch of food while waiting in line but refused to pay for it. However, she fled before officers arrived.
Passed Out at the BP
Just after 12:30 am, officers responded to a report of a man passed out in an SUV at the BP station on Gallia Street.
Officers took 27-year-old Alex Moore into custody on charges of disorderly conduct and arranged to have his vehicle towed.
Police booked him into the Scioto County Jail. Bright and early the next morning, he appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court and pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge.
Judge Steven L. Mowery levied a fine, which was suspended, and ordered him to pay $130 in court costs.
