Wendel Fannin, 73, of South Portsmouth, KY; passed away on Thursday, February 22nd at SOMC Hospice after a five-year battle with cancer. Wendel was born on October 10th, 1950 in Elyria, Ohio to the late Hagar and Seanith Elberta (Brown) Fannin. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Regina O’Neal; a brother, Dallas Ray Fannin; and a son, Craig Fannin.
Wendel was a retired union Ironworker with Ironworkers Local 769 with over 33 years of service, mostly with J & H Erectors of Portsmouth, Ohio as a Superintendent. Wendel loved to share stories of different buildings he had built in the tri-state area and took great pride in building a strong union family. He passed on his strong work ethic to his children and grandchildren. He was also a huge Cleveland Browns fan and enjoyed watching them play on Sundays.
Surviving is his loving wife Wanda, with whom he recently shared his 50th wedding anniversary with, as well as three sons; Chris (Erin) Fannin and three grandchildren of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Mike (Traci) Fannin and four grandchildren of Dover, Ohio; and Nick Fannin of Greenup. Also surviving are two brothers; Hagar (Judy) Fannin Jr of Wheelersburg, Ohio; Donald Fannin of Ironton, Ohio; and one sister, Debbie (Sam) Lykins of South Shore.
There will be a visitation for family and friends Friday, March 1, 2024 form 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, KY. Inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in his honor.
