Sixteen-year-old Kayla Pruitt of Proctorville, Ohio, died after a two-car accident on St. Rt. 243. The accident happened near County Road 2 in Lawrence County in Union Township.
According to the Ohio State Patrol, just before 9 am on Wednesday, Madyson Cole was driving in the WB lane of the highway when she lost control, went left of center, and hit a Jeep Wrangler driven by Tonya Hammond.
Kayla Pruitt was a passenger in Cole’s vehicle. OSP Troopers, Lawrence County Deputies, and EMS, as well as the Proctorville and Union Township Fire Departments, responded to the accident.
Officials say Pruitt died at the scene. Kayla was a student at Collins Career Technical Center. School officials said, “This is an incredibly challenging time for our school community, and our hearts go out to the student’s family and friends. Our thoughts are also with the others who were injured, and we wish them a full recovery.
We want to emphasize that support is available to help everyone cope with this tragic loss. Counselors and support staff are available to provide any necessary assistance to students and staff.”
Officers said the crash was still under investigation, but they had no reason to suspect driver impairment.
