Rodney Harold Barnett, 71, of South Webster, Ohio, passed away at the Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, on Tuesday, April 15th.
Rodney was the son of the late Harold and Irvene Barnett. Rodney was also preceded in death by his sister, Carlotta Barnett, an uncle, who was more like a brother, Dale Hamilton and his beloved granddaughter, Abby Ruby.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Barnett, whom he married on July 4, 1975, a daughter Kristin (Jesse Ruby) and grandchildren Alyssa and Asa Ruby and cousins, many friends and colleagues.
Rodney attended South Webster Schools and was an active member of the class of 1971.
He was involved in a myriad of activities and boards including; former Mayor of the Village of South Webster, Co-chair or Chairman of the Scioto County Republican Party consecutively for the past 30 years, 30 years on the Scioto County Board of Elections, founder and member of the South Webster Historical Society, South Webster Alumni Association, and other community boards. His main focus was involvement with anything that benefited kids and made lives better for them. He was a teacher, coach, and director of special events for the Bloom-Vernon District for over 50 years, served on the Developmental Disability Board for 12 years, 11 years as president, South Webster Little League, South Webster Athletic Boosters, President of Scioto County Board of Children’s Services, District 11 Board of Supervisors. Rodney is known in the SOC Conference as the ”Voice of the Jeeps”, he truly loved announcing games for his beloved Jeeps. Outside of his family, school, and political activities his greatest form of pleasure was to get on his John Deere and mow grass.
Funeral Services will be 12 Noon Saturday April 19, 2025 at South Webster High School with Pastor Merit Smith officiating. Visitation will be 3 to 7 PM Friday and 10 to 12 Noon on Saturday at the school. Interment will follow at South Webster Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family ask you make a donation to your favorite charity or to The Scioto Foundation, Bloom Vernon Legacy fund in honor of Rodney Barnett. A scholarship will be awarded in his memory.
