Gary David Kirsch, 76, of Portsmouth, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the SOMC Hospice Center with his beloved wife by his side. He was born on July 28, 1949, in Portsmouth, OH, to the late George Emerson and Juanita Lyons Kirsch.
Gary was a 1967 graduate of Portsmouth High School. A Vietnam-era veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Meritorious Unit Commendation for his service. Gary was a longtime member of the James Dickey American Legion Post 23, and he retired from the U.S .Navy Reserves after 20 years of service. He retired as Supervisor of the Sanitation Department after a 30-year career with the City of Portsmouth.
Surviving is his wife of 24 years, Kristi Lynn Crawford Kirsch, whom he married on August 20, 2001, in Portsmouth. He is also survived by two sons, Gary Damon Kirsch of Portsmouth, and Bryan (Sarah) Richardson of Spokane, WA; three daughters, Kelly (Phillip) Hawk of Minford, Brittany Richardson of Portsmouth, and Barri (Timothy) Whitt of Rosemount; a sister, Barbara (Ronnie) Hawes of Columbus; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Bentlee.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his brother, George Kirsch; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at noon on Friday, February 27, graveside in Greenlawn Cemetery with military rites provided by the James Dickey Post Honor Guard.

The flag of the U.S. Navy will fly at the funeral home in honor of Mr. Kirsch’s service to our country.
