Portsmouth Officers responded to reports of out-of-control kids and a troubled son seeks help after his mom passes away. We break down the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Welfare Check
The Area Agency on Aging asked police to check on a Kendall Avenue woman since her homecare provider had been out and hadn’t been there in a few days. Officers spoke with the woman just before 4 pm and she said she was fine.
Troubled Brother Seeks Help After Mom’s Death
At 4 pm, officers were called to Bloom Street for a family issue. A man was reported to be in his mother’s room going through her things.
She’d had a protection order against him at the time of her death two days previously and allegedly made threats to burn down the house while shooting up the night before.
Police spoke with his brother who advised police that everything was fine and his brother had made an appointment to get into a drug treatment program.
The Boyfriend That Wouldn’t Leave
A Grandview Avenue woman contacted police at 5 pm to report an issue with her boyfriend. She said she’d kicked him out a couple of days previously but he snuck into the house and brought all of his stuff back while she was at work.
She also reported that he kept driving by the house. Officers advised her to call him if he returned.
Just before 10 pm, she contacted officers to report he was out in the back of the home. He left before the officers arrived.
Kids Behaving Badly
A Stewart Avenue resident complained that a neighborhood kid threw bricks at his car and house and broke a window and taillight. He reported the child was on a dirt bike. Police took information for a report.
A Thomas Avenue parent contacted police at 5:40 pm to report neighborhood kids trying to fight other children. Police spoke with all parties involved. None of the children were injured. Officers advised them to stay away from each other.
Suspicious Activity
A caller reported several suspicious individuals in a 15th Street car lot carrying flashlights. Police spoke with the owner and discovered they’d had an incident a few days earlier where vehicles were damaged.
He said he would come in and keep an eye on the property.
Under the Influence at Kroger
At 6:45 pm, officers were asked to check on a woman who had previously overdosed in her vehicle in the Kroger parking lot. She’d left a rehab center she agreed to enter after the overdose. Officers spoke to her and she said she was fine. Police had no probable cause or consent to search her vehicle for drugs.
At 9:30 pm, police responded to a report of a man in shorts overdosing on Fentanyl at Kroger.
Meanwhile on Mabert Road
Officers responded to Mabert Road at 12:40 am when a woman told police another woman tried to force her way into her home and assaulted her.
She said the other woman shoved her off the porch and she injured her face but did not need medical treatment.
The woman was unsure of the victim’s last.
Cops Called For Out-of-Control Teens
A worried dad contacted the police to bring home his three kids. Officers found the kids on Kent Street.
Police took 2 other children ages 13 and 17 to their mother’s home. They reported she didn’t seem to know what was going on and didn’t really seem to care. Police said if the problem continues, they’ll contact CPS.
The first child was so far out of control, police summoned an ambulance to take the child to SOMC for treatment.
