A Florida woman says she got quite a surprise when she discovered her name had allegedly been used by a relative arrested in Portsmouth.
According to a report filed with the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, a woman contacted the Scioto County Jail claiming a family member had been arrested and booked under her identity.
🚨 “I LIVE IN FLORIDA”
The caller told authorities she lives in Florida and had learned that a woman being held in the Scioto County Jail was using her personal information.
Deputies later spoke with the woman by phone.
According to the report, Samantha Smith told officers that her sister, identified as Stephanie Meadows, had allegedly provided Smith’s name and Social Security number when she was arrested by Portsmouth police and booked into the jail.
📋 JAIL NOTIFIED
After speaking with Smith, deputies notified jail staff about the complaint.
Smith was also advised to contact Portsmouth police regarding the alleged misuse of her identity.
⚖️ CHARGES STILL LISTED UNDER WRONG NAME
The situation becomes more complicated because the criminal case is still listed in Portsmouth Municipal Court under Samantha Smith’s name.
Court records show the defendant in the case was charged with:
- Possessing Drug Abuse Instruments
- Drug Paraphernalia
The defendant was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to return to court on July 27.
