A Minford man is behind bars without bond after Scioto County deputies say a pregnant woman was badly injured during a violent domestic assault.
Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman announced the arrest of John Michael Odiam, 20, of Minford, following an incident reported on the evening of July 5.
The Scioto County 911 Communications Center received a call at approximately 8:08 p.m. about an active domestic dispute involving a pregnant woman at a residence on Parson Road.
When deputies arrived, they found the victim suffering from multiple injuries.
She was taken by emergency squad to Southern Ohio Medical Center, where she was admitted for treatment. According to the sheriff’s office, her injuries included trauma to the placenta of her unborn child.
The suspect had left the scene before deputies arrived.
Suspect Found in Pike County
The investigation continued into the early morning hours of July 6.
Detectives later located Odiam at his workplace in Pike County and took him into custody without incident.
He has been charged with:
- Domestic violence, a fourth-degree felony
- Three counts of felonious assault, second-degree felonies
- Abduction, a third-degree felony
- Strangulation, a second-degree felony
Odiam was booked into the Scioto County Jail and is being held without bond.
He is scheduled to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Tuesday, July 7.
Investigation Ongoing
Sheriff Thoroughman thanked the labor and delivery staff at Southern Ohio Medical Center for their assistance during the investigation.
The sheriff’s office said the case remains active, and additional charges may be presented to the Scioto County Grand Jury.
