A Portsmouth grandson wanted protection from his gun-toting grandpa and a woman claimed her sister-in-law cleaned out her husband’s bank account plus another puppy in the cold. We break down the highlights from the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Kicking Mom’s Car
Police responded to a report of a man arguing with a female and kicking her car just before 3 am. When officers arrived on the scene they found a man having a dispute with his mother.
His mom took him home.
Disturbing the Peace
- Officers received a report from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office that a woman was acting up inside the Fishbowl on Campbell Avenue just after 11 am. She left without incident when police arrived on the scene.
- A local crisis center reported an unruly male client at 11:35 am. An ambulance transported the man to the hospital.
- Just after 1 am, a Summit Street caller reported a man harassing his elderly mother. The son left before the police arrived. His sister told police she did not want him in the house yelling at their mom.
- Police answered a call to 19th Street at 10:47 pm for a report of a man screaming, yelling, and throwing stuff around. It turned out the man had a warrant from New Boston. He told police he had suicidal thoughts. An ambulance transported him to SOMC.
- At 11:11 pm, a Gallia Street caller reported a man in a camo jacket walked into the BP with a machete. When officers arrived, they didn’t see the guy, and employees told them they didn’t know anything about it.
Welfare Check
A Mabert road neighbor contacted police at 1:58 pm after he spotted something strange on his neighbor’s porch while shoveling her sidewalk.
He saw bags on her porch and was concerned something might have happened to her. Police were unable to contact the woman but saw notes on the bags that indicated that she had set them out and they did not belong to her.
Unwelcome Guest
One of two panhandling brothers who frequent Gallia Street businesses caused problems at the Taco Bell at 2 pm. He refused to leave and the restaurant wanted to bar him from the property. Officers could not locate him though they did check the area.
Under The Influence
A Gallia Street caller reported a man passed out in an SUV at the Dash Thru. Police issued a citation to the man and had his vehicle towed.
Hey! That’s My Stuff
- A Sycamore Street caller reported a shed break-in at 5:21 pm. The thief broke the lock off the shed and took tools and a chainsaw.
- At 8:32 pm, a Clay Street caller reported windows busted out of a vehicle near Hardknocks Training Center. Police took information for a report.
Missing Money?
A woman called the police at 5:50 to complain her husband’s sister took all of the money out of his account while he was hospitalized.
When police investigated, they discovered the sister-in-law had guardianship over the man and his finances. She showed officers a receipt that proved she’d used the money to pay his electric bill.
Police said the call was unfounded.
Texting and Driving
Just after 8 pm, a jogger notified police that a driver who was texting and driving nearly hit him on Front Street.
By the time police arrived, the vehicle had already pulled over. Police cautioned the driver.
Threatened By Grandpa
At 10 pm, a caller told police his grandfather had threatened him and a friend. The caller said grandpa made the threats on Facebook.
He told police his grandfather said he would be “seeing them tomorrow.” Though the guy said he didn’t feel particularly threatened, he wanted the incident documented since his grandfather owns firearms.
Police said there was no direct threat and advised the man to contact them if there was one.
Puppy In The Cold
Another report of a dog left outside in the cold, this time a puppy on Cherry Street at 10:52 pm. The caller contacted police again half an hour later to report that the puppy got out of the yard. She retrieved it, took it back to the owners, and they took it inside.
