PPD: Drugged & In Danger?

Officers handled an unmasked man, a missing person who wasn’t, and a couple of protesters on Tuesday. We hit the highlights of what went down on the mean streets of Portsmouth in these 13 slides. Family Feud

  • Officers were called to Linden Avenue just after 1 am for a report of two sons fighting. Fortunately, there were no weapons involved, just some pushing and shoving. One son had left by the time cops arrived.
  • A fight between a brother and a sister brought police to Harrison Street just before 1 pm. The brother left before the police arrived. Officers were unsure why they were called in the first place.

Lost and Found

At 5:21 am, a woman called to report that her daughter was missing and that her destroyed phone had been located in Pike County.

Portsmouth Officers verified the claim with Pike County Dispatch. The caller said her daughter was last seen around 11 pm on Monday.

Just after 6 am, police located her safe and sound. She said she’d been in town since 2:30 am and was never missing. Police notified the worried mother.

Whose Bike Is It Anyway?

Officers were called in to referee a dispute over a bicycle just after 9:30 am. The story gets a little complicated.

  • At 9:30 am, a caller complained two boys knocked his son of his bike on Jackson Street and took off in the direction of Royce Street.
  • At 9:49 am, police caught up with the boys on Charles Street. One of the boys said it was his bike and he wanted it back.
  • At 10:12, the father of the victim explained that he came into possession of the bicycle when the parents of the child who took it moved away and left the property behind. When they didn’t come to retrieve it, the landlord asked him if he wanted it. He took the bike and gave it to his son.
  • The other boy took exception and took it back.
  • Police confirmed the story with the landlord. She said the boy’s parent told her they were done moving and she could keep anything left behind.
  • Officers advised everyone involved that the ownership of the bike was a civil issue.

Hey, That’s My Stuff

A Charles Street caller reported a grill stolen from her porch sometime overnight. She didn’t have a suspect in mind or a security camera. Officers told her the report would be closed unless they got further information.

Whose Wheelchair Is It Anyway?

Officers were called to Royce Street for a report of an abandoned purple motorized wheelchair. Turns out someone forgot to pick it up.

Fake Money

Police were called to a store on Harding Avenue. An employee had collected several counterfeit bills the placed had collected over time.

The employee had no information on who passed them or when. Police took them to destroy and suggested that the store call the police as soon as they get a fake bill.

Under the Influence

  • At 1:30 pm, officers were called to 20th Street for a report of a woman slumped over a steering wheel. She told police she didn’t have a valid license. She walked home and was advised not to drive.
  • About a minute later, police answered an overdose call on 7th Street. A caller reported an OD in the alley. The man refused treatment.
  • Police answered a call to Mabert Road at 1:49 pm for a report of a man tweaking. He had a warrant but it was no longer valid. Police suggested he leave the area.
  • A caller reported two men shooting up in the alley behind the 7th Street Christian Baptist Church just after 7 pm. Police told them to move along.

Dog Gone

At 2:30 pm, a caller reported his white husky dog stolen. He said people had posted his dog on Facebook but refused to make contact with him.

Officers attempted to contact the people he believed stole the dog but didn’t have any luck.

Masked Mayhem

PPD responded to the Save A Lot on Gallia just after 5:30 pm after a man put up a fuss about mandatory mask requirements. Police explained to the man that masks were required if he wanted to stay in the store. The store furnished a mask.

DOA

Police answered a call to the First Apostolic Church on Grandview for a report of an unresponsive man. A doctor declared him dead at 5:47 pm.

There was no evidence of anything suspicious. The coroner released the body to the funeral home.

Kids In Danger?

Officers responded to a report of children screaming on Wayne Avenue just before 9 pm. The caller said a 16-year-old and her siblings were abused. The callers said she observed marks on the teen.

Officers spoke to the mother. The kids seemed fine and had no visible marks. The mom said the kids were just playing loudly.

Drugged and In Danger?

At 9 pm, a woman reported to police her daughter was drugged. She also claimed the daughter was held hostage by a man. When the police arrived, the woman was fine. The man hopped out the window and fled when police rolled up.

Protest Painting

Officers responded to a report of people painting under the bridge near the Shawnee Boat Club just before 11 pm. They painted protest slogans, including Black Lives Matter material, under the bridge.

Police caught up with two women a few minutes later and advised them of the consequences of committing vandalism. The women did not have paint on them.
