A high school student who spent three hours lying in the nurse’s office saying she was sick had reportedly been drinking Twisted Tea on the way to school.
When she was given a breath test, the result was .176, according to a school resource officer’s report.
The incident happened September 14 at Fairland High School, where the school resource officer was called to check on a female student believed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The officer found the student in the nurse’s office, where she was slurring her words and having trouble holding a conversation with staff.
After speaking with students who had ridden the bus with her, the officer learned that she had reportedly been drinking Twisted Tea she got from a friend. The report indicates the friend was associated with a group home but does not explain how the student obtained the alcohol.
The officer requested assistance from the Ohio State Highway Patrol to administer a breath test.
According to the report, the student registered a .176 blood alcohol concentration after spending approximately three hours at school. She had told the school nurse she was simply sick.
The principal contacted the student’s parents and asked them to come to the school.
The student was released to her mother, who was instructed to watch her and seek medical attention if needed.
The officer said the student would be charged with underage consumption and public intoxication. The report does not indicate that she was taken into custody.
