PPD – TASED and Maced in New Boston, Ohio

Officers were forced to TASE and mace an out-of-control suspect on Saturday plus they tried to help an elderly mom and disabled daughter living in garbage. We break down the highlights in these next 13 slides.

Can’t We All Just Get Along?

  • A caller reported a couple fighting on Robinson Avenue just after 1:22 am. She said a man threw things at a woman.  The man said the woman took his property. Officers discovered he had an active warrant and took him into custody.
  • Just after 6 am, officers responded to a report of two women fighting. The women told officers the fight was verbal. One of them agreed to leave.

Suspicious Activity

Just after 4 am, a Robinson Avenue caller reported a strange noise outside her home. She thought someone might be messing with her camper. Officers checked the camper and the home but found nothing.

Meanwhile at Speedway

Officers answered a shoplifting call at the Speedway at Gallia just before 6:30 am. The suspect was described as wearing a black jacket, jeans, and carrying a gray purse. Police took information for a report.

TASED and Maced In New Boston

PPD answered a call from New Boson for mutual aid just before 11 am. A man was attempting to get into a donation box in New Boston.

The shirtless man rammed his shoulder into the box in an attempt to open it. An NBPD officer tased and maced the subject.  Portsmouth Officers aided in securing the man.

Who Let The Dogs Out?

At 11:33 am, police received a report of two loose dogs in the area of Timmonds Avenue and 20th Street. Witnesses described one as a German Shepherd and the other as a brown dog. The dogs were harassing a mail carrier. The dogs had left by the time police arrived.

Another caller complained about the dogs just before 2 pm.  Eventually, the owner arrived home and secured the animals.

Get Out of My Shed

An 8th Street resident called police just after noon to report people squatting in his shed.  He told them to get out, but they refused.

Police informed him it was a civil issue.

Kids In Danger?

A caller reported 2 children alone in car seats in a van at Kroger just before 2 pm. The vehicle was gone when officers arrived.

Determined Aunt

Just before 10:30 am, an aunt told police she needed to speak to an officer about retrieving her nephew’s property from a home he shared with his girlfriend. She said the girlfriend will not let them take his belongings. Officers explained they can’t divide up belongings

At 2 pm, police stood by to keep the peace when the aunt came to pick up the property. The resident asked the aunt to leave and she became aggressive.

Police explained again that it was a civil matter. They advised the aunt that her only option is to request the property and that police cannot assist in removing the property.

Hey! That’s My Stuff

  • A 10th Street business reported a man and woman going through vehicles on their lot just after 2 pm. Officers caught up with the pair in the 1100 Block of 10th Street. They already had a warrant for the woman.
  • At 3:13 pm, a teen reported two guys knocked him off his bike and stole it. By the time officers arrived, he’d left the scene and told officers he didn’t want to make a report.
  • Police answered a call about an attempted car theft on Kendall Avenue at 4:19 pm. The attempt to steal the car was unsuccessful but the thieves did take several items from the car, including the license plates and title.
  • Just after 8 pm, a caller reported two people in dark clothing inside the fenced area at Goodwill on Robinson Avenue. The subjects were attempting to break into trucks. Police could not locate them.

Under The Influence

  • At 2:23 pm, a caller reported a man sitting on a wall on Vinton Avenue shooting up.  Police could not locate him.
  • Officers answered a call of an overdose on Kendall Avenue at 5:15 pm. They confirmed a burglary warrant on the man and took him to the county jail.
  • A caller reported an apparently high woman staggering around the Magic Tunnel Car Wash at 5:42 pm. It was feared she might stagger into traffic. Officers could not locate her.

Angry Ex Calling

A man called the police at 3:30 pm to report a phone threat. He said a man called his office and asked if he were in. When he said that he was, the man said he was an ‘angry ex-boyfriend’ and hung up the phone.

He thought he knew who the caller was and asked police to drive by his house and make sure no one was there.

Barefoot and Hungry at Kroger

Just before 7 pm, a caller reported a “crackhead” running around the Kroger parking lot grabbing things out of buggies and attempting to eat them.

They also reported the man kept taking his shoes off and on. Officers advised the man to leave and Kroger filled out the form to bar him from the property.

The man returned at 10:30 pm. This time, the caller thought he was carrying a knife and appeared to be on drugs. Police took him into custody.

Family In Need

When officers answered a call at 8:40 pm to help a 94-year-old woman after a fall, they discovered a sad situation.

The woman served as a caretaker for her 59-year-old disabled daughter. Police said there were heaps of trash, papers, and other items strewn throughout the house with just a path cleared for a chair and a refrigerator.

Police notified adult protective services and arranged for both women to be transported to the hospital.
