2 arrested for stealing catalytic converters in Wheelersburg.
Two men have been arrested for stealing catalytic converters from a Wheelersburg car dealership. On Tuesday, January 21, Mike’s Auto Sales reported to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office that catalytic converters had been cut from several vehicles on their lot. And one of them didn’t seem to be a bit bothered by the bust.
Catalytic converters are popular targets for thieves because they contain precious metals and are fairly easy to remove from vehicles.
When deputies responded to the scene, they found two men hiding in the area. Catalytic converter thefts have been a problem in the area.
Captain John W. Murphy of the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office says he’s assigned detectives specifically to work on the string of thefts.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, an investigation revealed that a man driving a truck dropped off the two suspects at the cat dealership in order to steal parts from vehicles.
Timothy A. Long, 36, of Lucasville was arrested and charged with theft, vandalism, possessing criminal tools, and breaking & entering. Long also had an outstanding bench warrant for driving under suspension and including panic. In his mugshot, Long did not appear to be too upset about the arrest. In fact, he was grinning ear to ear.
Also arrested was Christopher Miller, 37, who resides with Long in Lucasville. Miller was charged with theft, possession of criminal tools, vandalism, and breaking & entering. Additionally, he had a bench warrant for driving under suspension and probation violation. Both men were held without bond.
Police say the man who dropped them off fled the scene but they have identified him and plan to file additional charges.
