12 Best Colleges in Ohio

It’s no secret that Ohio is one of the best states in the nation to attend college. We’re home to 30 public universities, a few private institutions, and countless colleges of various types. And since we’re a hub for talent in health care and business, we’ve also got some great higher education programs for students looking to become a doctor or lawyer.

But what if you’re not looking to major in health care or business? Here are the ten best colleges in Ohio to attend and get your bachelor’s or higher degree. Tuition’s quoted come from www.collegecalc.org. These fees include housing costs, books and supplies, and other living expenses. However, they do not include grants and financial assistance programs that may be available on an individual basis.

Ohio State University

Founded in 1802, OSU is the oldest university in the state of Ohio. In fact, Ohio State University is the third oldest public university in the country. But even if it’s not the oldest, OSU is still the most popular college in the state. When most people think of Ohio State University, they’re probably thinking of its marching band or football team. But it is more than that. The university has a long and distinguished history in the area of science and research.

University of Toledo

The University of Toledo is one of the best colleges in Ohio. The university is actually in a unique situation when it comes to the local economy. The University of Toledo is a part of the Toledo Regional Growth Partnership. The growth partnership works to promote the area and give high tech companies a place to relocate to the area. So when people hear the University of Toledo, they immediately think of the surrounding area.

Ohio University

Ohio University has been around for more than 150 years, making it the oldest university in the state of Ohio. And if you’re looking to stay in the area and pursue a degree, it’s one of the best colleges in the state. Not only do students have access to the best facilities, the university also offers both a broad range of classes and quality educations.

University of Cincinnati

Like the other universities on this list, the University of Cincinnati is a public institution. But UC is in a unique position when it comes to the local economy. Because UC is one of the only universities that serve a large number of international students, there is more money flowing into the area. So when people think of the University of Cincinnati, they’re likely thinking of the area.

Denison University is one of the best colleges in Ohio. It’s one of the country’s oldest liberal arts colleges, and it’s also one of the top liberal arts colleges in the Midwest. Denison offers more than 200 majors and minors, and it’s highly ranked academically. It’s also a great college to be a part of a close-knit community and gain real-life experience.

Shawnee State University

Students at Shawnee State can choose from about 50 majors. One of those is sports management, which was one of two sports management programs in Ohio recognized by The Princeton Review. Other notable programs are the pre-veterinarian program, for students who want to go into a veterinary field after graduating, and a program in criminal justice, which allows students to earn a degree with four years of college credit. Additionally, the university has a wide variety of clubs and athletic programs for both men and women.

Ohio Northern University

Ohio Northern University is actually a university within a university. It’s actually an extension of Oberlin College, which is one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country. But people rarely think about Ohio Northern University because it isn’t located in one of the major cities. Rather, it’s located in Wooster, a small town in northeast Ohio.

Ashland University

Ashland University is one of the best universities in the state. Bowling Green State University
