9-year-old Girl Attacked By Dog

Police brought in an air ambulance after a 9-year-old girl was attacked by a dog. Plus a report of a knife attack on Mabert Road. We break down the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Suspect in the Closet

Just before 2 am, officers responded to a Kendall Avenue apartment for a report of a fight between two women. The resident told police one of the women involved fled out the back door. Police took information for a report.

The resident called back at 2:23 am to say the woman had returned and the two were fighting again. The resident informed police the suspect was currently hiding in a closet upstairs.

Police arrested the woman and discovered she also had an active warrant from the Scioto County Sherriff’s Office.

Under The Influence

• At 7:45 am, a caller reported an apparently high man at 17^th and Linden. Police were unable to locate the suspect.
• Officers responded to a report of an apparently drunk man at 8^th and Chillicothe at 9:43 am.
• A Gallia Street caller reported witnessing an apparently high woman taking drugs at Save A Lot. Police searched the vehicle and took information for a report.
• Just before 8 pm, police answered a call for an overdose on Wayne Avenue. She was revived and left the scene before police got there.
• A Harding Avenue caller informed police he found drugs just before 11 pm. An officer impounded the drugs and took a report.
• Police responded to Campbell Avenue after a resident said someone ran into their house and said someone had overdosed. Police could not locate a victim.

Parking Crackdown

• PPD continued their parking crackdown on7th Street at 9 am. They issued citations to three vehicles and towed a vehicle originally cited back on March 5.
• Officers moved on Harding Avenue at 9:30 am and noticed someone removed all of the “No parking -this side” signs from the street.
• At 11:02, officers impounded an illegally parked vehicle.
• An officer responded to the Scioto Trail for a report of multiple junk vehicles on a lot. PPD obtained information for 14 vehicles and left a note for the owner.

Hey! That’s My Stuff

• Speedway reported a man stuffing his jacket with stolen goods and then hiding in the bathroom. The manager planned to review the security video and determine the stolen items. The suspect helpfully dropped his cell phone while fleeing the store. Officers impounded the phone.
• At 3:37 pm, police received a complaint of a stolen catalytic converter from a Court Street company.
• Proving that thieves will indeed take anything that isn’t nailed down, a High Street woman called police at 4:51 pm, to report someone helped themselves to her mulch. She also claimed they damaged items on her property. She suspected neighborhood kids. An officer responded to the scene and didn’t see any signs of theft.
• At 10:15 pm, a 5^th Street caller reported someone stole cleaning supplies. Police took information for a report.
• Police located a vehicle matching the description of one used in thefts parked across from Hudson House at 11:53 pm. An officer took photographs of the vehicle.

Family Feud

Police responded to the Woodbine Apartments at 3 pm for a fight between an adult brother and sister. The pair frequently involve the police in their disputes.

The two had a disagreement over personal property. Officers advised them it was a civil matter. The pair agreed to separate.

Dog Attacks 9-year-old Girl

Just after 6 pm, multiple police and medical units responded to a report of a 9-year-old girl bit by a dog. Police called animal control and called for an air ambulance.

There aren’t many details in the report, so we’ve contacted PPD for more information. We do know that an ambulance transported a victim to the helicopter pad. The air ambulance then took off.

At 6:40 pm, police responded to Center Street for a report of a woman trashing a house, breaking windows, and throwing items out of the windows. The homeowner had moved to evict the woman and she was quite upset.

Police noted a large cyst on her arm popped and had been smeared.  Police called an ambulance to take her to the hospital. They advised the homeowner they can’t make the woman leave the house until the eviction is complete.

Mabert Road Stabbing

At 11:59 pm, a Mabert Road caller said a man came into their yard and said another man cut him.  The victim told police a man came around the side of a house, swung at him with a knife, and cut his forearm.

The victim refused medical attention and would not write a statement.
