Police were forced to make entry into a home after an assault report and gunshots were reported on Mound Street. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Unwanted Visitor
Just after 6:30 pm, a neighbor heard noises coming from an apartment in Wayne Hills that was supposed to be empty. PMHA opened the apartment for police who took a man into custody.
Son Worried About Sick Parents
A worried son asked the police to check in on his mom and dad. The mom had recently tested positive for COVID and had low oxygen levels.
He thought his parents seemed confused on the phone.
Police stopped at their apartment at 7:40 pm to check on them. They said everything seemed okay.
Threats at Hudson House
A Hudson House resident reported that another resident had threatened him and used racial slurs.
Officers said the pair had a minor altercation and that one man said something about the other’s sister while the other admitted hurling racial insults.
One man told police he was an “original G” from Columbus and not afraid of the other man. Police advised both gentlemen to behave.
Gunshots on Mound Street
Just after 8 pm, a caller reported possible gunshots on Mound Street.
Officers checked the area but could not find any signs of a disturbance.
Officers Bust In To Stop Domestic
Police forced entry into a 5th Street home after they received a report that a man had a woman in a chokehold and was hitting her.
When no one answered the door, they pushed their way in. Officers also called CPS about the incident. Police said the people in the home were very upset.
Kids Run Away From Group Home
Four teenagers took off from a group home just after midnight. Officers caught up with them in an alley near Campbell Avenue. Police returned three of the kids to the group home and took the fourth to SOMC.
Officers returned to the same group home a few hours later for a report that a juvenile cut herself. The child was transported to SOMC for treatment.
Ground Hog Day
An alarm went off a Jack Fish & Sons on Gallia Street at 2:30 am. Police were informed that groundhogs had repeatedly activated the alarms.
Everything appeared secure at the residence.
Man With Shotgun Reported at Four Keys Inn
Around 4 am, police responded to the Four Keys Inn for a report of a man walking around with a shotgun.
When an officer spoke to the complainant he claimed his friend had used his phone to take money out of his bank account. Officers so no sign of a shotgun and suspected man may have mental issues.
Main Claims Someone Tried To Kill Him
A man claimed that someone tried to kill him while visiting Jackson but he managed to get away. He contacted a family member, claiming he had a gun and would be okay for now but would likely be killed if someone didn’t come get him.
Police tried to get in touch with the man. He told them he was fine.
