Bar Torn Down to Make Room For Museum Expansion
The Southern Ohio Museum and Cultural Center is planning a multi-million dollar expansion. That project kicked off with the demolition of the old Richard Noggins Pub. The land where the bar, which showed up frequently in police reports, will be used for the project.
Scioto County Commissioner Scottie Powell spoke of the expansion at Thursday’s Commissioners’ meeting. He said he had the chance to spend time with Ohio Department of Development Lydia Mihalik while she toured the museum on Wednesday. The museum recently received a $48,000 grant from the state.
Powell said the expansion would allow the museum to put more of their collection on display. “I’m excited for the museum and its vision. I think it’s going to tie in well with the UNESCO Heritage site and the mound energy that’s happening in the State of Ohio Right now. They have a great collection of artifacts there.
Powell said the visit also gave him a chance to talk with Mihalik about the Appalachian Development Grant. “I was just sharing the vision of what we’re trying to accomplish. She was very encouraging. Hopefully, our application rings true with the people who are grading them in Columbus.”
Powell also congratulated the Ohio Department of Natural Resources on the recent opening of the new campground at Shawnee State Park.
