PPD – Kids Left Alone In Car

Police answered calls about kids left alone in cars, people beating on doors, and tried to help out several dogs in danger on Monday. Who’s That Knocking at My Door?

  • A Robinson Avenue grandmother reported a young woman beating on her door, screaming, and attempting to fight her granddaughter just after midnight. Police took information for a report.
  • A woman reported her ex pounding on the door to her room at the Royal Inn at 2:44 am. She said he refused to leave. Police took him into custody.
  • Kendall Avenue neighbors reported a shirtless man pounding on doors just before 9:28 am. Officers advised him to leave the area and stop knocking on doors.

Hey That’s My Stuff

  • At 12:30 am, a Robinson Avenue caller reported someone behind the house apparently stealing pipes and making lots of loud banging noises.
  • The BP on Gallia reported a shoplifter who made off with beef jerky just before 1 am. Police saw the theft on security footage. They took a report.
  • A Woodbine Apartments resident notified officers just after 9:30 am that someone used her bank card without permission. Police took a report.
  • A caller witnessed a man steal a package from a 5th Street home at 1:23 pm. Police spoke to the resident but were unable to find the suspect.
  • At 4:48 pm, a Grandview Avenue resident reported that someone broke in and stole medication. Police issued a theft of medication form.

Threatened With Gun

A 17th Street caller told police his neighbor was threatened with a gun just after 11:30 am. According to the report, a suspect pulled a pistol on the man and said that he “had something for you.”

Turned out the victim had an outstanding bench warrant. Police issued a summons.

Dog Days

  • Police and a passerby assisted in the rescue of an injured dog on 27th Street just before 6 am.  The officer had a hard time catching the frightened animal with a catchpole. The passerby walked with the dog to a fenced area and calmed it down.  Police asked the Health Department for Help but they were advised that the animal control officer was out of town.
  • Just before noon, police received a report from Cherry Street of an attempted dog bite. The dog’s owner admitted they could not control the animal and signed over custody to the Dog Warden
  • Just after 5 pm, a caller reported to police that she’d recovered her stolen dog on McConnell Avenue. She said she had a phone number for the suspect. Police said they would follow up.

This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

Just before 8 am, a caller from the SOMC Main Campus reported someone vandalized her 2018 Ford Mustang. The vandal left-hand prints all over the vehicle and drew a penis on the bonnet with dirt. No other damage was observed.

Under The Influence

  • At 12:43 pm, police responded to a report of an extremely intoxicated man yelling vulgar things to women passing by the Hudson House Apartments.  An officer escorted him back to his apartment.
  • An apparently high man was seen digging through trash cans in an alley near 8th Street just after 2 pm. His pants were hanging down and his backside was exposed. Police couldn’t find him.
  • A caller reported a woman lying in the grass near the Valero gas station on Gallia at 2:45 pm Police advised her to move on.

False Alarm

  • Just after 8 am, officers responded to a photo beam alarm at the Oasis Convenient Mart. It turned out to be a false alarm.
  • A smoke alarm sounded at a Royce Street rehab facility at 9:27 am. The alarm company called in a cancellation.

Kids Left In Car

A caller reported two small children alone in the back seat of a vehicle at the Dollar Tree just after 3 pm. Police stood by the car until the parents came out.

The mother told police her 8-year-old son had an autoimmune disease and was safer in the car.

The officer advised the parents that since there were two adults present, one could have stayed with the children.

DOA

Police answered a report of an unresponsive man at a Wayne Avenue apartment just after 8 pm.

Officers contacted the coroner and impounded phones, drug paraphernalia, and drug residue. They also contacted the victim’s mother.

Yelling And Screaming

A caller reported a shirtless man yelling and screaming in the parking lot of Kroger at 8:30 pm. A few minutes later the man had moved on to CVS and Tracy Park.  Police told him to leave the area and stop yelling.
