A Scioto County man with a lengthy criminal history is back behind bars, this time facing a new list of serious charges that includes kidnapping, abduction, aggravated vehicular assault, and failure to comply with police.
Justin Bostwick was booked into the Scioto County Jail on October 2.
According to jail records, the new charges include two counts under Ohio’s aggravated vehicular assault/vehicular assault law, along with kidnapping, abduction, failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, and obstructing official business.
That is a pretty serious lineup of charges.
What we don’t know yet is exactly what happened.
No police report explaining the incident was available at the time of publication, so there are still big unanswered questions about who was injured, what led to the alleged kidnapping and abduction charges, and how the vehicle was involved.
Bostwick is being held in jail under bond and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Portsmouth Municipal Court on October 7.
Long Criminal History
The new case is not Bostwick’s first trip through the court system.
His prior record includes cases involving carrying a concealed weapon, breaking and entering, receiving stolen property, vandalism, domestic violence, failure to comply, theft, and possession of drug abuse instruments.
One of the more serious earlier cases involved methamphetamine manufacturing and trafficking charges.
In 2005, Bostwick pleaded guilty to illegal possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs and trafficking in methamphetamine.
Court records show he received an agreed prison sentence of four years on the drug-manufacturing-related charge and 17 months on the trafficking charge, to be served consecutively.
He was also given credit for 99 days already served.
The new October charges are separate from those old convictions.
For now, the biggest question is what happened on the day of the latest arrest.
The charges suggest a serious incident involving a vehicle and another person, but until police reports or court documents provide the details, anything beyond that would be speculation.
Bostwick is presumed innocent on the new charges unless proven guilty in court.
