A woman called 911 during an argument with her husband and then greeted deputies with a remarkably straightforward confession:
“I slapped him.”
That admission got Jonda Chapman arrested for domestic violence. But according to the deputy’s report, that was only the beginning of the family drama.
Lawrence County deputies arrived to find Jonda and her husband, Jarvis Chapman, outside their home. Jonda immediately admitted striking her husband and explained why.
She said she believed Jarvis was having an affair and wanted him to hurt like she hurt.
Jarvis confirmed that his wife had slapped him, although he told deputies he did not want to pursue charges. Both declined to provide written statements.
Deputies explained that Jonda’s admission that she intentionally struck her husband gave them grounds to make an arrest regardless of Jarvis’ wishes.
Jonda was placed in the patrol vehicle.
Then their son arrived.
“Take Him and Let Her Out”
According to the report, the couple’s son came roaring onto the scene in a lifted Chevrolet Silverado, stopping so abruptly that the tires squealed.
He immediately told his father to drop the charges and demanded deputies release his mother.
When told she was under arrest and wasn’t getting out, he reportedly pointed at his father and suggested another solution:
Take Dad instead and let Mom go.
Deputies declined.
The son continued arguing, demanded that the deputy call his chief and allegedly became increasingly hostile. Deputies finally ordered him back to his truck and told him to leave.
As one deputy turned toward his cruiser, the son allegedly began approaching him from behind, prompting the second deputy to intervene.
Then father and son started going at each other.
Deputies had to get back out of their cruisers and separate the two men as they stood nearly face-to-face yelling in the yard.
The son was warned that if his behavior continued, he could find himself arrested for disorderly conduct.
According to the report, he responded that he’d simply come back after deputies left.
Then He Followed the Cruiser
Deputies finally left with Jonda headed for jail.
But the lifted Silverado wasn’t finished.
The deputy transporting Jonda said he soon spotted her son following the patrol cruiser toward the jail, at times driving extremely close behind it.
Considering what had just happened at the house, the deputy said he was unsure what the man’s intentions were.
Then the situation took another turn.
Near the State Route 93 exit on U.S. 52, Jonda appeared to lose consciousness in the back of the cruiser.
The deputy immediately pulled over, checked her and called EMS.
And the Silverado pulled in behind him.
The deputy ordered Jonda’s son to leave, but he initially refused. Two nearby Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers were eventually called over to help get him away from the scene while the deputy attended to Jonda.
Jonda had a pulse and was breathing and soon regained consciousness. She told the deputy she believed she’d suffered a panic attack.
EMS evaluated her, but Jonda declined transportation to the hospital and said she wanted to continue on to the jail.
So that’s where the trip finally ended.
Jonda Chapman was turned over to jail staff on the domestic violence charge.
