Tweaked Out, Asleep, and Melting Down Around Town

Folks with addiction and mental health issues kept Portsmouth Police Officers very busy. 

Around 2:30 pm, residents of the Portsmouth Senior Lofts reported a woman lying in the alley behind the building. Officers headed to the scene and took a woman into custody.  

At 4:30 pm, a caller reported an upset woman wearing a yellow dress walking across the Grant Bridge. When officers caught up with her, they noted she was suffering from severe mental health issues. They gave her a ride home.  

At 4:50 pm, Kroger caller reported a man was screaming at and harassing customers. Police took the man into custody for disorderly conduct.  

Employees at the Sixth Street Carryout reported a woman lying on the sidewalk. Officers spoke with her and asked her to move along.  

A woman flagged down an officer near Jim Dandy and reported she was suffering from mental health issues. She said she hadn’t had her meds for a few days and felt confused. The officer called for an ambulance, which transported the woman to SOMC. 

Callers reported a woman nodding out on a bench at 2nd and Court Street around 1 pm. However, the woman left before officers arrived.

Around 5 pm, callers spotted a man lying face down in the parking lot at the Oasis Convenient Mart. They said he appeared to be tweaking. Officers took the man into custody.  

Kroger employees reported three men going through their dumpster making a mess just before 6 pm. They said they told them to leave, but the guys refused. The men were gone by the time police arrived.  

Callers from Kroger also reported a “tweaked out” man standing in the road. However, he left before officers arrived.
