Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp in Jackson was the lucky recipient of a $250,000 dollar grant to fund a new conference center, sleeping quarters, and restrooms for the boys’ hill cabins, and to pay for much-needed upgrades in the heating and cooling systems for Harrison Powell Lodge.
A whole lot of work has been done on the project since ground was broken in October and it’s expected to be finished by this spring.
Michelle Stumbo, a former president of the camp’s board, said, “We are excited for this new opportunity to expand our sleeping facilities and update Harrison Powell. This will allow us to accommodate more campers, but also give another rental space for the community to use.”
Kids from all over the region including Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, and Scioto Counties use the facilities for programs like Shooting Sports, STEM Camp, and Special Needs Camp, as well as many other activities.
But the camp still needs to raise $50,000 in matching funds for the project. So far, they’ve managed about $16,000. So there’s still a ways to go and they’d like your help to reach their goal and continue to provide a great space for kids to learn and grow.
