Chester William Fannin, 100 years and 20 days, of Minford Ohio, died Sunday, March 7th, 2021 in San Diego, California. Born February 15th, 1921 in Minford, OH to the late Monroe and Flossie Fannin. On April 5, 1942, he married Clara Florence Cotton. They were married for 67 years until her death in 2009. Chester and Florence lived in the New Boston area before moving to San Diego, CA in 1962. He is survived by his son Lanty Dale Fannin (Pat), daughter RoseAnn Vickery (John), and daughter Melissa Kay ODonnell (Thomas) as well as son David (born/died October 10, 1953). He is survived by 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 1-2/3 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was the sole remaining member of his family which included 6 sisters and 2 brothers. He went to school through the 7th grade in Minford, OH. He served in Italy in World War II from November 1942- June 1945. He was awarded an EAME Theater Ribbon with 3 bronze stars and a Good Conduct medal.
He worked at Ohio Valley Wholesale until his move to San Diego, CA. There, Chess worked for many years with Edwin Clegg Construction. He loved being a carpenter and building custom-built homes.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2021, at Bennett Cemetery in Minford. Military graveside rites will be conducted by James Irwin Post No. 622 American Legion and William A. Baker Post No. 363. Per CDC guidelines and governor recommendations, everyone is asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Arrangements are under the direction of Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford.
