The surprise decision to close Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland at the end of the summer will leave 1,000 people out of a job. Two local hospitals are making moves to offer employment to those affected by the decision to shut down the hospital.
Kristie Whitlach, president of King’s Daughters Medical System, said KDMS has made over 200 job offers. “We are doing everything we can to retain talented physicians and OLBH team members. After all, healthcare is only as good as its people.”
Whitlach said OLBH and its parent company were being extremely open and helpful as arrangements were made for employees and the transfer of patients. “I assure you their support and open access to information and resources would not happen in most communities. And while we feel a sense of loss, I also see people who care deeply for our friends and colleagues and the need to keep high-quality healthcare local.
Also, Southern Ohio Medical Center held a job fair with on-site interviews for physicians and advanced practitioners in Ashland on Monday night. Prospective employees were able to meet with key members of the hospital staff to discuss job opportunities.
Those who were unable to attend are invited to call 1-740-356-8152 for medical opportunities. All others can check out available employment on the hospital’s web site.
