A report of an illegal yard sale at a home in the 1400 block of Summit Street led to an all-out crackdown by multiple agencies.
Officers cited the resident for violating Portsmouth’s yard sale regulations and called in Portsmouth Code Enforcement.
Animal Control officers responded to the scene, and the city shut off water on the property.
**Publisher’s Note: For those seeking to have a yard sale within the city limits, here’s how to do so legally. Per City Ordinance 735.07, contact the City Manager’s office and pay a $10 permit fee. The ordinance states you can go in person, send through the mail, or call (740) 354-8807 during regular business hours.
“The license shall set forth the name and address of the person who will be conducting such sale and the date of the sale. There will be a three-day limit and one sale per month limit.”
