A truck driver made a shocking discovery at an area Speedway just before 10 pm and flagged down a deputy on patrol to investigate. He told the officer he’d found a man slumped over in the seat of a vehicle parked next to the Proctorville gas station and thought the person might need Narcan.
When an officer approached the vehicle, they spotted blood on the window and the windshield of the car. The deputy used their flashlight and spotted a pistol on the man’s lap and saw that he was severely wounded.
The officer checked to see if the individual was breathing and discovered they were not. The deputy immediately advised employees to close the store and called in another officer to help close off the area with crime scene tape while they waited for EMS to arrive.
Multiple agencies responded to help close off the area for investigation. Detective checked store security to see if they could narrow down the time of the shooting.
EMS confirmed the man was deceased, and officers called in the coroner and collected evidence. They were able to identify the deceased fairly quickly and arrange for a funeral home to take possession of the body. Additionally, law enforcement had the vehicle towed and notified the next of kin.
