Robert D. Nichols, 85 of Portsmouth, died Monday February 10, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family . He was born March 16, 1939 in Scioto County to the late Ora R. and Vesta Brown Nichols.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, William Nichols, 2 sisters; Donna Harrison and Shirley Hopkins.
Robert was a United States Army Veteran and was a member of the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion He was retired from the State of Ohio where he was the State Liquor Supervisor. He was a former Deputy Sheriff from 1968 to 1972 and was Common Pleas Court Bailiff from 1999 to 2009.
Robert is survived by his wife Betty J. Nichols who he married on August 29, 1960, 2 daughters; Tamara (Larry) Owens and Tina (Rick) Bowles, a sister Judy Liston, and a beloved grandson Robert Nicholas Bowles.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, February 13, 2025 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Danny King officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park with military rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American legion. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday starting at 1:00 PM.
